Not content to merely stay in the lab, Quincy often ventures out into the field on a crusade to gather evidence to prove his findings. Through his expertise, and with the help of fellow examiner Sam Fujiyama (Robert Ito), he sometimes uncovers details that indicate that a seemingly natural death was actually a murder. In his position, Quincy uses forensic medicine to determine a deceased person’s cause of death.
He joins the County of Los Angeles’ Coroner’s Office as a Medical Examiner (M.E.). Quincy (Jack Klugman) gives up his lucrative private practice as a surgeon after his wife Helen dies from a brain tumor.
